Skin Care after the Summer

Hello Ladies and WELCOME BACK from your summer holidays!

Time to start taking care of our skin after all it has been through during these hot summer months.

The needs of our skin change with the seasons. Late summer and early autumn is the best time to start the restoration process of our skin by providing to the skin the tender love and care it needs.  The warm summer months have managed to make our skin more dry and clog the pores, leaving our skin looking dull. If we choose to ignore it, we leave the door wide open for the early visible signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, uneven discoloration and freckles.  We therefore need to follow certain necessary steps to restore a soft, smooth, radiant and healthy skin.

Antioxidant care

Although we cannot undo damage to the skin caused by the UV rays, what we can do is protect it from future damage.  Due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVA / UVB) the
antioxidant reserves of the skin are depleted therefore we need to use antioxidants skin care products that will replenish the antioxidant protection of your skin. Choose products that contain very high concentrations of vitamin C and green tea, since they support the healing of the skin and help the skin to contradict damage caused by the sun. Vitamin C also helps to alleviate pigmentation and freckles caused by sun exposure. Products with Vitamin C will greatly benefit your skin, making it radiant and healthy.

Scrub for smooth, glowing skin

After a summer full of sunshine and outdoor activities, the skin always becomes dull and rough. It is therefore important to remove dead cells accumulated on the surface of the skin which clog pores not allowing your skin to “breathe”.  The use of just a moisturizer is not enough to make the skin soft and smooth. You will need to exfoliate not only to restore the smoothness of the skin, but also toenhance the skin's ability to absorb more effectively the other skin careproducts you use.

Moisturizing Mask

A moisturizing mask is extremely helpful inrestoring skin cells while promoting regeneration of new cells.  As an after-summer treatment use a moisturizing mask 2-3 times a week. Prefer masks containing nutrients but also compounds which help to retain moisture in the skin such as hyaluronic acid Furthermore, given that the use of water by our body is essential for cell metabolism, it is important to add plenty of daily water intake to moisturize your skin from the inside out.

Serums and ampoules for extra protection

Do not underestimate the power of serums and ampoules.  Using a deep moisturizing serum or ampoule in the evening, will do amazing things for your skin while you sleep. You will wake up with a refreshed, softer and glowing skin. Apply the serum or ampoule before your night cream.

Protection From the Sun

I will repeat it again! Sunscreen is essential and you should use it every day year-round. Just make sure your sunscreen is broad spectrum, to also prevent UVA rays, which are more prevalent at this time of the year, and cause damage to the skin. As I have mentioned before, our face stops at our décolleté area, so make sure you use sunscreen on the neck and décolleté.

Treat your feet!

Do not forget your feet. During the summer when most of us wear sandals and flip flops, we end up with dry and rough skin on our feet. This is especially so for the heels and soles of our feet.  For the first few times use a scrab(exfoliant) to soften the feet and remove dead skin cells, followed with a goodquality conditioning, moisturizing cream. After that, use your foot cream 3-4 times a week.

Treat Your Lips

Split and chapped lips is something that occurs in both winter and summer. You will need to use special lip balm thatwill provide deep hydration and nourishment to your lips to cure them but also to offer them protection. Just keep it handy in your purse and  apply it throughout the day.

Watch your diet

Finally, pay attention to your diet because what you eat plays an important role in the appearance and health of your skin. Take vitamins, antioxidants and fiber you need for optimal skin health by eating foods with no added ingredients, and particularly fruits and vegetables.

Here you have it then.  Let's get started!

Until next time... BE Beautiful!
